This work presents a scene of strong metaphysical character in which architecture, landscape and human figure are combined to build an ambiguous space. The composition is organized around an angular architectural structure that dominates the central plane: vertical walls and geometric planes, some decorated with chess patterns in orange and dark tones, create a scenario that refers both to idealized architecture and to a mental or symbolic space.
Made in the context of European art at the end of the 20th century, the work can be placed within a pictorial sensibility that recovers elements of surrealism and metaphysical painting developed in the first half of the 20th century, reinterpreting them from a contemporary perspective. During this period, many artists returned to exploring stripped architectural spaces, solitary figures and symbolic objects as resources to construct images of an introspective and enigmatic character.
