DESCRIPTION

FRANCISCO ECHAUZ (Madrid, 1927 - 2011).
"For a good pleating".
Oil on canvas.
Presents author's label on the back.
It has jump of paint in the upper left area.
Signed in the lower left area.
Measurements: 100 x 81 cm; 102 x 83 cm (frame).
Spanish draughtsman and engraver. He was a member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum, appointed in 1970. He began his training at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando between 1944 and 1950. He furthered his studies at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Gráficas and at the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas. In 1955 he obtained a pension for the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and remained in Italy until 1959. He worked as a professor at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, winning the chair of Drawing from Life. In 1963 he was appointed secretary of the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he remained until 1966. In 1978 he became a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he later became dean. As an artist, his work as an illustrator of bullfighting posters stands out. Throughout his artistic career he received numerous awards: in 1951 he was awarded the National Painting Prize, and in 1953 he won the National Engraving Prize and the first medal for engraving at the National Exhibition for Plaza de Oriente. In 1957 he was awarded the gold medal of the Association of Engraving Artists. In 1970 he won the grand prize at the VIII Biennial of Art of Alexandria and the following year he was awarded the National Prize for Painting.
