Far from any anecdote, Viaplana builds in this painting a refined language in which the matter, the glazes and the subtle chromatic variations acquire an absolute protagonism. The work is situated in that key moment of his career in which painting is reduced to the essential, exploring the limits between image and abstraction, between presence and emptiness.

Viaplana made his debut in 1975 at the Ciento gallery in Barcelona and since then has developed a solid international career with exhibitions in cities such as New York, Tokyo and Basel. Since 1978 he has combined painting with design, collaborating with institutions such as MACBA or the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, as well as with emblematic projects such as El Bulli. His work is part of important collections such as Fundació La Caixa, Fundació Vila Casas and Museu de Granollers, among others.
