Julia Minguillón was an outstanding Spanish painter linked to the renovation of the Galician painting of the 20th century. Trained in Madrid in the School of Arts and Crafts and in the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Fernando, she had as teachers artists like Manuel Benedito, Cecilio Pla and Ignacio Pinazo. He developed a personal style between naturalism and postmodernism, characterized by a naive lyricism, poetic sensibility and compositions of primitivist tendency with certain post-cubist features.
He achieved great recognition in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, obtaining in 1941 the gold medal for his famous work Escuela de Doloriñas. He also participated in important international competitions and received in 1948 the Grand Prize of Fine Arts. His work, focused on landscapes and genre scenes, left a profound influence on later Galician painting. It is currently represented in collections and museums such as the Provincial Museum of Lugo and various Spanish institutions.
