DESCRIPTION
Box; France, 19th century.
Silver with enamel.
Measurements: 2 x 10 x 6.5 cm.

Crafted in silver, this box features an oval shape embellished with a delicate chiseled design of garlands and plant motifs, while the lid features an enamel medallion painted with a floral scene centered on a basket overflowing with flowers, evoking the taste for idealized nature that characterized much of the artistic production of the period.
The piece is part of the decorative historicism that dominated 19th-century French goldsmithing, a movement that revived ornamental motifs from the Rococo and Neoclassical periods to adapt them to the new tastes of a bourgeois society increasingly drawn to domestic luxury and artisanal refinement. The combination of silver and painted enamel highlights the close collaboration between silversmiths and enamelers, whose skill allowed them to integrate the solidity of the metal with the delicacy of a painting characterized by vivid colors and extraordinary attention to detail.
