Art Nouveau sculpture of a young woman wrapped in a golden cloth or towel, as if just out of a bath. Her hair falls in cascades, harmonizing with the sensual folds of the cloth. Next to her bare feet, a lotus flower blooms. The figure, delicately modeled, follows the nymph-like feminine typology that would predominate in the modernist period.
Royal Dux was one of the most outstanding porcelain manufactures of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods in Bohemia. Founded by E. Eichler in 1853 in Dux (now Duchov), near Prague, it has remained in business to this day. Around the turn of the century, the firm specialized in the production of Art Nouveau figures and busts. These were large pieces, mainly female-themed, as well as vases decorated with round figures.
