DESCRIPTION
Set of plate and cup. SEVRES. France, XIX century.
Following models of the eighteenth century.
In glazed porcelain.
With manufacturing mark on the base.
Measurements: 7 x 6,5 x 6,5 cm (cup); 15 x 15 x 9 cm (plate).
Set consisting of cup and saucer in enameled porcelain belonging to the manufacture of Sèvres, decorated according to the French rococo taste of the eighteenth century.
It has a light background finely dotted with small scattered roses, framed by vegetal garlands intertwined with undulating ribbons in blue tones, all enhanced with fillets and borders in gold. The delicacy of the floral repertoire and the elegance of the gilding evoke the courtly production of the reign of Louis XV.
It is a refined example of the enduring success of the rococo language in Sèvres production.
Sèvres was founded in Vincennes in 1740 with the support of Louis XV, and moved to Sèvres in 1756. In the 18th century, it was noted for its colored backgrounds and the exceptional quality of its gilding, an exclusive privilege in France following its appointment as a royal manufactory. After a decline during the Revolution, the factory experienced a major revival under the direction of Alexandre Brongniart, introducing technical innovations in decoration with cartouches on monochrome backgrounds. From the mid-19th century, historicist eclecticism prevailed.
