This work Terán, articulates a cross-reference where the history of modern art is reinterpreted from an ironic and poetic key. In the sculpture, the figure holding the mobile is a recognizable Pablo Picasso, here converted into a character, almost a performer, who physically interacts with a device that evokes the famous mobiles of Alexander Calder. This inversion is fundamental: it is not Calder who activates the movement, but Picasso who sustains and tensions the balance of the structure. In this way, Terán proposes a symbolic coexistence between the two artists, where Picasso's figurative and expressive tradition enters into dialogue with Calder's kinetic abstraction. The work thus functions as a double tribute, in which not only influences are recognized, but an imaginary encounter between two ways of understanding 20th century art is staged. The motif of unstable equilibrium acquires here a particularly eloquent character: the figure of Picasso seems to sustain, almost with effort, a fragile and changing system, suggesting the constant tension between control and chance, between matter and movement.
A Chilean artist living in Spain, with a degree in Fine Arts, Manuel Terán has developed his creative work in the field of plastic arts and new technologies applied to art. Since he became known in 1995 at the Salón de Otoño del Círculo de Bellas Artes in Santiago de Chile, he has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows and fairs in Latin America and Europe. He has received awards such as the Real Academia de San Carlos de Valencia (2004).
