Castilian sideboard made of walnut around 1700, an example of Spanish furniture marking the transition from the High Baroque to the early 18th century. Designed as a piece for everyday use in noble residences, palaces, and religious buildings, this type of sideboard stands out for the purity of its lines, the nobility of its materials, and its extraordinarily solid construction—characteristics that have allowed numerous examples to survive for more than three centuries.
This type of sideboard played a fundamental role in domestic and ceremonial life during the 17th and 18th centuries. They were used as reception tables, occasional writing desks, or display stands for valuables, silverware, or devotional images. The decorative restraint is fully in keeping with Castilian taste, where the excellence of craftsmanship takes precedence over exuberant ornamentation.
