Interesting English edition of The History of the Conquest of Mexico by Antonio de Solis, printed in London in 1738, within the early European diffusion of the chronicles on the conquest of the New World.
The work, translated by Thomas Townsend, is one of the most influential historical accounts of the conquest of Mexico, written in the 17th century and widely disseminated in different languages during the 18th century. Its publishing success responds to both the historiographical interest and the narrative appeal of the episode, which aroused great curiosity in the European public.
The copy is presented in two volumes bound in period leather, with decorated spines and bookplate, also preserving ex-libris of the former owner, which adds bibliographical interest.
Illustrated with engravings, such as the foldout depicting the Templo Mayor of Mexico, it is a significant testimony of the European vision of the pre-Hispanic world.
Due to its age, state of preservation and historical relevance, this is a work of notable interest for collectors of antique books and American themes.
