BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of Louis XVI side tables La Fayence-Manufaktur Münden. Hannover-Münden, ca. 1780.
Original hand-painted earthenware trays with high, shaped edges. Solid cherry wood bases.
Measurements: 76 x 76 x 56 cm.

Pair of Louis XVI side tables La Fayence-Manufaktur Münden. Hannover. One tray is adorned with a vase filled with flowers, while the other depicts a floral basket. The rims are adorned with garlands of lilacs and detailed paintings of wildflowers and foliage in shades of blue and green. The bases are made of solid cherry wood with shaped edges that elegantly follow the shape of the trays. Each table includes a skirt with a drawer and its original lock, while the slender, tapered legs are accented with shaped edges and finished with serrated moldings and small "shoes". Both trays bear the distinctive "CC over C" stamp, signature of the Hannover-Münden earthenware factory, active between 1732 and 1854. In addition, the initials "F" and "L" identify the craftsmen responsible for the exquisite decoration.

The Fayence-Manufaktur Münden specializing in faience, based in Hann. Münden, Germany, was founded in 1749 by Johann Christian Diez, and was active until about 1830. This places it at a crucial period in the development of ceramics in Europe. Initially, its decoration showed a strong influence of the Rococo style, with floral motifs, pastoral scenes and gallant figures. Over time, the style evolved towards Neoclassicism, with simpler forms and more restrained decorations.
