Rainer Fetting is one of the most prominent figures in German figurative painting that emerged in West Berlin during the 1970s and 1980s, associated with the movement known as the Junge Wilde (The Young Wild Ones). Trained at the Berlin University of the Arts, he was a student of Karl Horst Hödicke and, alongside artists such as Salomé, Helmut Middendorf, and Bernd Zimmer, founded the Galerie am Moritzplatz in 1977, a key venue for the renewal of contemporary German Expressionist painting. He also lived in New York during the 1980s. His body of work encompasses painting, sculpture, and graphic art, and is distinguished by a reinterpretation of historical Expressionism from a contemporary perspective. His works are part of major international collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and other institutions dedicated to modern and contemporary art.
