DESCRIPTION

SALVADOR DALÍ I DOMÈNECH (Figueras, Girona, 1904 - 1989).
"Pablo Picasso".
Bas-relief in 925 sterling silver.
Signed with anagram.
Measurements: 19 x 2 cm (medal); 33 x 31 cm (frame).

Bas-relief made in 925 sterling silver, conceived as a tribute by the surrealist master to the figure of Pablo Picasso, whom Dalí deeply admired throughout his career. The piece presents a portrait in relief of strong expressive character, where the features of the face are modeled with a free and gestural language, faithful to the Dalinian plastic universe.

The composition combines the recognizable figuration of the sitter with elements of spontaneous strokes and organic forms, creating a dialogue between the classical representation of the bust and the artist's personal and symbolic interpretation. The silver modeling accentuates the hallmarks of light and shadow, giving depth and dynamism to the whole.

The work is presented framed, with an identifying plate, reinforcing its character as a commemorative and collector's piece.

Salvador Dalí, a central figure of surrealism and one of Spain's most internationally renowned artists, trained at the Royal Academy of San Fernando before joining the Parisian environment of the 1930s, where he developed his famous paranoiac-critical method and an unmistakable visual language. His extraordinary versatility -painter, draftsman, writer, set designer and total creator- consolidated a body of work present today in the great museums of the world, from the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres and the Casa de Portlligat to the MoMA and the Metropolitan in New York, the Reina Sofía in Madrid or the Centre Pompidou in Paris, institutions that testify to the permanence and international scope of his legacy.
