BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

WILLIAM HENRY WATSON (England, active second half of the 19th century).
"Sheep," 1863.
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Signed and dated in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 44 x 64 cm; 65 x 84 cm (frame).

William Henry Watson specialized mainly in landscape and marine scenes within an English naturalistic and academic tradition. As we see in this pastoral scene starring sheep, his work is usually characterized by a sober brushstroke, luminous atmospheres and a detailed representation of rural or coastal environments, in line with Victorian and Edwardian landscape sensibility.
