This work Gloria Muñoz is a representative example of the pictorial sensitivity that characterizes the career of this artist from Barcelona, whose work is part of a contemporary figuration of marked gestural and atmospheric character. The artist develops a coastal scene in which the protagonism falls on the large circus tent, represented by broad dynamic brushstrokes and a vibrant palette dominated by reds, whites and blues. The pictorial treatment, of great material freedom, reveals a spontaneous and expressive execution that privileges the sensorial perception of the landscape over its meticulous description.
Trained at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Gloria Muñoz developed from the beginning a painting interested in the urban landscape, leisure spaces and scenes of contemporary life. Her plastic language combines elements of the Catalan landscape tradition with influences of post-impressionism and expressionism, visible in the chromatic intensity, the fragmented brushstroke and the structural use of color. In 1975 she opened her own workshop dedicated to teaching art, a pedagogical activity that she has maintained in parallel to her pictorial production. Later, in 1985, she was appointed Professor of Painting at the University of Barcelona, specifically in the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1988 the artist became part of the group of painters linked to the Sala Parés. This relationship has favored the public projection of her work, allowing her to develop a solid exhibition career both in Spain and abroad. Muñoz has presented solo exhibitions in various cities in Spain, as well as in New York, Andorra and California, and has participated in group exhibitions in countries such as the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, France, Italy and Spain.
