DESCRIPTION

JOSÉ MARÍA CUASANTE (Burgos, 1945).
Untitled, 2004.
Acrylic on canvas.
Signed and dated on the reverse.
It has minor losses of paint in the upper area.

José María González Cuasante is a Spanish painter. In 1970, at the age of 25, he began his artistic career as a drawing instructor at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where two years later, in 1972, he received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation to continue his studies abroad.
He is currently a professor at the School of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid.
His works are notable for their affinity with American hyperrealism, from which the photographic language emerges; it is also worth noting that they focus on images of everyday life and urban scenes.
In the mid-1980s, Cuasante briefly abandoned the photographic realism that had been a hallmark of his work in favor of neo-expressionist painting based on the dualism of light and color, only to return to it with even greater intensity later on.Cuasante has held 63 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 120 group exhibitions. It is worth noting that Cuasante’s works are included in the collections of twenty-five museums and major institutions, such as the IVAM in Valencia, as well as the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and Spanish institutions like the Reina Sofía National Art Museum.
