BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

RAMÓN AGUILAR MORÉ (Barcelona, 1924–2015).
“Catching Butterflies,” 1976.
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 65 x 92 cm; 90 x 115 cm (frame).

Born in Barcelona, he began his training as a student of Oleguer Junyent, from whom he learned drawing, although he considered himself a self-taught painter. He worked in his studio between 1945 and 1948, and during those years he also produced numerous sketches of “music hall” and ballet scenes at the Rigalt and Liceo theaters. He held his first exhibition at the Rovira Gallery in Barcelona in 1949, and since then, without interruption, he has exhibited his works in various galleries in Barcelona and in major Spanish cities. He has also held exhibitions in London, Paris, Chicago, Monte Carlo, Geneva, New York, Los Angeles, and Luxembourg. In Barcelona, he has repeatedly exhibited at the Gaspar, Grifé & Escoda, Novell, and Rusiñol galleries. The latter celebrated its 21st anniversary in 2007 with a retrospective exhibition of this painter’s work. Outside Barcelona, he has also exhibited his work at prestigious art galleries, including Àgora 3 in Sitges, Alcolea in Madrid, and Garbí in Valencia. He has received numerous awards and honors, such as the Gold Medal from the City Council of Palma de Mallorca, the Sant Jordi Award from the Barcelona Provincial Council, and the Miquel Carbonell Painting Award and the II Mediterranean Games Award. His work is featured in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, the Museums of Fine Arts and Perrot-Moore in Cadaqués, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Reina Sofía Museum in Athens, the Fons d’Art in Olot, and the Municipal Art Gallery in Palamós.
