Starsky Brines is a contemporary artist whose work is located at the crossroads between neo-expressionism, popular culture and comic aesthetics. Trained at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón in Caracas, where he graduated in Fine Arts with a major in Painting, he complemented his training with advanced studies in Western Art History at the Universidad Metropolitana and the Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos Arturo Uslar Pietri.
His artistic practice is characterized by the construction of a hybrid visual universe, in which human and animal figures, child-like characters and references to superheroes or mass media iconography coexist. Through painting, drawing, collage and other resources, Brines articulates visual narratives that oscillate between the playful and the disturbing, the familiar and the grotesque, generating an imaginary with a strong symbolic and emotional charge.
His plastic language is dominated by intense colors, sharp lines and an aesthetic that refers both to urban graffiti and children's drawings, in dialogue with influences of neo-expressionism and other contemporary figurative currents. His works explore, through humor and distortion, issues related to identity, the human condition and the tensions of urban life in Latin American contexts.
With a consolidated international career, his work has been exhibited in museums, fairs and galleries in Europe, America and Asia, and is part of important institutional and private collections. He currently lives and works in Caracas, maintaining a production that continues to expand his particular visual universe between the narrative and the expressionist.
