This work follows the models of the painting attributed to the workshop of Titian that belongs to the Pitti Palace collection. The work in question represents the Holy Family, accompanied by an angel. In this piece the author follows Titian's guidelines in a faithful way, dividing the space in two; showing a closed area and the right area of the scene open to the landscape. The Child, located strictly in the center of the scene, stands out for its monumentality. The representation of this Holy Family is enlarged with the presence of an angel contemplating Jesus. In such a way that the artist creates a scene of greater dynamism than the usual representations of the Holy Family, providing an enriching vision of the theme represented. Without forgetting the pictorial tradition, the artist resorts to a classical composition with the Virgin, the Child and St. John forming a triangle to which the presence of St. Joseph is added, thus increasing the main scene and adding complexity to the composition of the scene, showing the quality of the author. The monumentality of the figures and the presence of a landscape dominated by the architecture of classical forms show us the heritage and knowledge of the author with respect to the classical world that exerts a great influence as was usual at the time.
In the most common sense of the expression, the Holy Family includes the closest relatives of the Child Jesus, that is, mother and grandmother or mother and nurturing father. In both cases, whether it is St. Anne or St. Joseph who appears, it is a group of three figures. From the artistic point of view, the arrangement of this terrestrial Trinity poses the same problems and suggests the same solutions as the heavenly Trinity. However, the difficulties are fewer. It is no longer a question of a single God in three persons whose essential unity must be expressed at the same time as diversity. The three personages are united by a blood tie, certainly, but they do not constitute an indivisible block. The work of Jose cercaba.
