BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Jug from Roman culture, 1st-2nd century AD.
Clay, lathe and firing.
Size: 17.5 x 12 cm.
Globular-bellied jug made entirely of clay. In Roman times, clay was the material used when there was a lack of building stone, when the quality of the stone was not good, or when the stone was difficult to work. It was discovered by accident that it was even more resistant to humidity and water if this material was fired.
