Bastard! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazushi Hagiwara. It began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Sh?nen Jump in 1988 and has continued irregularly in Ultra Jump since 2000, with its last chapter published in 2010. Hagiwara is an enthusiastic fan of heavy metal music and Dungeons and Dragons and uses ideas from both genres in the Bastard!!! story. Many characters and locations in the story, for example, are named after members of Hagiwara's favorite bands. The manga was adapted into a six-episode original video animation series (OVA) by AIC, released between 1992 and 1993.
