This work of the XVIII century is a religious painting of baroque style, characterized by its rich ornamentation and a composition structured in narrative scenes. It is a representation of the delivery of the keys to St. Peter by Christ, a traditional theme in the Christian iconography that symbolizes the authority conferred to the apostle over the Church.
In the central scene, Christ, dressed in a golden tunic and with a resplendent halo, extends the keys to St. Peter, who kneels as a sign of submission and reception of the divine mandate. Behind them, a group of apostles observes the moment with expressions of devotion and solemnity. Above the scene, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove illuminates the act, emphasizing its sacred character.
The frame of the painting is adorned with baroque decorative elements and various minor scenes within ornate cartouches. In the corners and edges are key episodes of Christianity, such as the Last Supper, the Crucifixion of Christ, the washing of the feet and the preaching of Jesus, reinforcing the theological message of the work. In the upper part, the papal tiara and the crossed keys highlight the continuity of Peter's power in the figure of the Pope.
The painting presents a chromatic palette dominated by ochre and golden tones, which gives it a monochromatic and antique appearance, possibly due to the technique of sgraffito or tempera on panel. Its decorative and symbolic style suggests that it may have been used as part of an altarpiece or as a didactic piece for religious teaching in a convent or church.
