Ornamental vase of historicist style, combining a structure of baroque inspiration with decorative motifs of both this style and rococo, in a free and very decorative combination, typical of historicism. As usual in Capodimonte pieces, the decoration is dominated by relief, mainly delicate flowers modeled separately and applied, but also large rocailles. Round putti and painted gallant scenes enrich the composition.

Founded in 1743 under the reign of Charles VII of Naples, the future Charles III of Spain, the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte was born with the aim of emulating the great factory of Meissen, whose patron had been Augustus the Strong, grandfather of Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. It was, after the Saxon factory, one of the first in Europe to use real porcelain, with kaolin, fired at a temperature varying between 700 and 800º, with a second, higher firing, between 1,400 and 1,500º. His production was very extensive, although he was especially noted for his sculptures, both round and in relief, decorating all types of objects.
