Elegant vase with carved glass reservoir and mouthpiece in sterling silver, from the workshop of the Wolfers brothers, Brussels.
In 1812, the German goldsmith Wolfers opened his first workshop in Brussels. The company was on its way to becoming one of the most successful manufacturers of silverware and innovative cutlery. The company's founder, Louis Wolfers, was succeeded by his son Philippe (1858-1929), who achieved great notoriety between 1897 and 1907. His Art Nouveau jewelry creations were the key to his success. The 1958 Brussels Universal Exhibition finally consolidated the fame of the world's most renowned Belgian goldsmith.
At the end of the 1960s, the family history of the company came to an end, giving way to the transfer of ownership to partnerships. The Wolfers jewelry store on rue d'Arenberg in Brussels, designed by Victor Horta, is now open to the public.
