DESCRIPTION
DAVID DOUGLAS DUNCAN (Kansas City, 1916-Grasse, 2018).
"Picasso's Picasso's Picasso."
Photograph signed by Picasso.
Measurements: 30 x 21 cm.
In addition to his well-known combat photographs, Duncan became famous for his portraits of Pablo Picasso, whom he met through fellow photographer Robert Capa. His close friendship with the artist allowed him to be the only person authorized to photograph many of the artist's private works and his daily life. Duncan, who published a total of seven books of his photographs of the Cubist master - thus offering an unprecedented insight into his studio and personal life - resided in Castellaras, France, very close to Mougins, where the painter spent the last twelve years of his life.
Photojournalist David Douglas Duncan became famous for his coverage of war conflicts. He worked for Life magazine and was one of the most important photographers during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His work is currently held at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, the MoMA in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York and the George Eastman Museum in New York.
