BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Italian school; XVIII century.
"Christ crucified".
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Measurements: 88 x 58,5 cm; 99 x 73 cm (frame).
In this canvas Christ is represented on the cross, nailed with three nails and covered with a narrow cloth of purity of white color, knotted at the height of the hip and with the waving fabric, thus showing an atmospheric sensation to the spectator. Christ, still alive, raises his gaze to heaven, with a gesture of acceptance, without his face showing the physical suffering that we do not appreciate in his body, which shows an anatomy of ideal character and classical heritage evident in the musculature. The figure is placed on a simple cross of straight planks, with the sign with the legend "I.N.R.I." ("Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum", "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews") above Christ's head.
