BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Italian school, RECCO's field; XVII century.
"Kitchen still life".
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 63 x 75 cm.
The composition presents a staggered disposition of culinary objects, crockery, vegetables, fruits and utensils, organized in successive planes that suggest a deep and ordered domestic space, almost architectural. The influence of masters such as Giuseppe Recco can be seen in the treatment of warm, enveloping light, which emerges from the half-light to selectively highlight volumes and textures. The earthy chromaticism and the dark atmosphere refer to the Caravaggist heritage, while the measured accumulation of elements responds to a decorative taste, characteristic of the Neapolitan environment.
The Recco family is one of the most outstanding sagas of Italian still life painting between the 17th and early 18th centuries, mainly linked to the Neapolitan and Genoese environment. Their production is part of the development of the Baroque natura morta, characterized by an intense observation of the real, a dynamic composition and a refined treatment of the material qualities. The most outstanding member of the lineage is Giuseppe Recco, whose work masterfully synthesizes the Caravaggist heritage with his own decorative sensibility. Along with him, figures such as Giacomo Recco, considered one of the initiators of the genre in the family, and Gennaro Recco contributed to consolidate a recognizable pictorial language, based on the abundant but balanced arrangement of the elements, and a meticulous attention to detail.
