BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Spanish school; end of XIX century.
"Academica masculine".
Oil on canvas.
It has perforations and flaws in the frame.
Measurements: 107 x 70.5 cm; 120 x 83 cm (frame).
Aesthetically the work bears some relation to José Pinazo, painter and sculptor, son of Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench, was born in Rome when his father was a pensioner there, and at the age of two he returned to Valencia with his family. In his early years he began his training in the family workshop, after which he entered the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia. He soon began to be known through the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, being awarded with honorable mention in 1895 and third medal in 1897 and 1901. He also participated in the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900, obtaining the second medal. T
The work is intended to be done in preparation for a finished piece, or as visual notes. Studies are often used to understand the problems involved in depicting subjects and to plan the elements to be used in finished works, such as light, color, form, perspective and composition. Studies can have more impact than more elaborately planned work because of the new insights the artist gains as he or she explores the subject matter. Such details help reveal the thought processes and techniques of many artists. Studies even date back to the early Italian Renaissance, from where art historians have kept some of Michelangelo's studies.
