BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
RAFAEL AMORSOLO (Philippines, 19th-20th century).
"Filipino warrior", 1973.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 46 x 36 cm.
Portrait of Philippine portrait by the painter of customs Rafael Amorsolo. The work responds to a need to show the customs and popular characteristics that describe the Philippine society. During the 19th and early 20th century, costumbrismo was an artistic trend that achieved great recognition. In the case of Philippine painters, this theme was of great importance, since, in spite of being a Spanish colony, there was a great lack of knowledge of both its population and its customs.
