BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
School of JOSE MARIA GARCIA BAÑÓN, (Argentina, Santa Fe, 1903 - 1964). "Hunting scene". Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Measurements: 100 x 165 cm, 109 x 174 cm (frame). He was born in Santa Fe on May 21, 1903 and died in Buenos Aires in 1974. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts directed by José María Reinares. His love for his native land was deep, and themes related to the countryside and the banks of the Paraná became the main driving forces of his art. From his youth, he showed a remarkable talent for painting, and his first exhibitions date from the 1920s. Around 1930, he moved to the Chaco, where he captured in his oil paintings the hard struggle of man against the impenetrable quebrachales, demonstrating his undisputed painting skills. However, he never forgot his beloved Santa Fe, and dedicated part of his work to recreate historical moments of the province, such as The Foundation of Santa Fe and The Death of Juan de Garay. He also devoted himself to teaching, becoming Director of the Drawing School of the Municipality of Santa Fe. In 1924 he participated in the Second Annual Salon of the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts Rosa Galisteo de Rodríguez, in Santa Fe. He won the First Prize in the Iconographic Contest on Brigadier Estanislao López and the Grand Prize in the Fine Arts Salon at the Litoral Exposition in Entre Ríos, among others. Recognized for his skill as a portraitist, his work includes an outstanding oil painting of General López. With a unique style, he painted beautiful landscapes of the littoral, characterized by exuberant vegetation.
