Painter and illustrator, José Ignacio Burguete was formed in the School of Arts and Artistic Offices of Madrid between 1945 and 1950. During the fifties he began his career working as a draftsman in advertising, illustration and decoration. At the same time, in 1956 he began to devote himself to portraiture and painting in general, dedicating more and more time to this activity until he finally gave up illustration to concentrate fully on painting. In 1960 he joined the Spanish Association of Watercolorists of Madrid and the Association of Painters and Sculptors, and in 1964 he held his first solo exhibition, beginning a long career that will lead him to hold more than seventy exhibitions of his work. His work as a portrait painter deserves special mention, since Burguete has portrayed important figures such as ministers, presidents of the Provincial Council and other politicians, as well as important businessmen. He has also made several portraits of King Juan Carlos I, the most important of which is currently in the Palace of Montjuic, donated by the Armed Forces.
