The "Tratado de las enfermedades más frecuentes de las gentes del campo" is a medical work by Samuel Auguste André David Tissot, translated into Spanish by Juan Galisteo y Xiorro. This treatise, published in 1781, deals with the most common diseases among country people and offers advice on their prevention and treatment.
Samuel Auguste André David Tissot was a notable Swiss physician of the 18th century. A reputed Calvinist Protestant neurologist, physician, professor, and advisor to the Vatican, Tissot practiced in the Swiss city of Lausanne. He wrote on the diseases of the poor, masturbation, the diseases of men of letters and the rich, and nervous diseases. He devoted a chapter of 83 pages to the study of migraine in his "Traité des nerfs et de leurs maladies" (Treatise on the nerves and their diseases). For this he relied on his own observations and the medical treatises of the time. His work is considered by modern physicians as a basis for "future generations of physicians". He is also recognized as "the classical authority on migraine".
