Kyathos. Ancient Greece, Daunia, 5th–4th centuries B.C.
Terracotta.
Repaired. Damaged rim and handle.
Provenance: K. J. Hewett, Kent, 1975; Michael Shaw, acquired in London, 1991; acquired by Mr. Emiel Kusters from the above in 2006, Amsterdam.
Measurements: 11 x 12 cm.
Shallow bowl with a widely flared rim. The decoration is in shades of brown and red. The inner surface of the rim features brown bands along the upper and lower edges and a reddish-brown band in the center. The outer surface of the rim features a brown band along the edge. Geometric motifs on the exterior; the tondo is undecorated. On the bottom: an eight-spoked wheel motif in black. The handle is decorated with swastikas.
