DESCRIPTION
Thot; Egypt, Lower Egypt, 664-332 BC.
Bronze.
Measurements: 5 x 2 x 1 cm.
Thoth was the Egyptian deity of wisdom, writing, music, incantations and magic spells and lunar symbol. In art he is represented as a man with the head of an ibis, with a pen or an ank and a celestial scribe's tablet to write down the thoughts, words and deeds of men and weigh them in his scales. In many occasions the amulets adopted the form of the god Thot, forming part of funerary trousseaus.
