Carved wood.
Measurements: 33 x 20.5 x 9 cm.
A female mask associated with the artistic tradition of the Igbo people, characterized by the idealization of facial features and elaborate hairstyling. It depicts a spiritual maiden (Agbogho Mmwo), evoking the ideals of beauty, youth, and feminine grace, as well as ancestral female spirits. Notable features include her serene expression and her elaborate dark headdress, composed of tiered crests and geometric shapes that recall the traditional hairstyles of young Igbo women. These masks are used in ceremonial dances and community celebrations, in which the dancers embody idealized female figures.
