This type of fans were originally called "thousand faces" by the application of small ivory plates for the faces. However, following the same typology but substituting the ivory for the combination of colored textiles and paint, they were later developed for export to Europe. To this group belongs the fan shown here, with the hand-painted country, with a multitude of figures in palace gardens inspired by the ancient Chinese court.
