DESCRIPTION
Pair of tibores; Japan, Meiji period, c. 1880.
Hand-painted ceramic.
Signed on the back.
Measurements: 40 cm (height); 20 cm (largest diameter).
Pair of tibores made in painted and partially gilded ceramic. The two vases have lids with figures of Foo dogs, symbol of protection and good luck, and are decorated with motifs of dragons and flowers in red and gold tones.
This type of pieces reached a great popularity among collectors of the time, who began to appreciate the artistic manifestations of other cultures such as the oriental, including also the Islamic or Chinese. Very often, it was works destined for this market that ended up influencing European ceramic production, which aspired to resemble as closely as possible this production destined for export.
