DESCRIPTION
Pair of Chinese vases. Qing Dynasty, ca.1910.
Hand painted porcelain.
With signature on the back.
Measurements: 36 x 12 x 12 x 12 cm.
Pair of porcelain vases. It belongs to the characteristic production of the last imperial years, a stage marked by the artisan continuity and the increasing orientation towards foreign markets. Made of hand-painted porcelain, they have a quadrangular body that rises towards a flared neck, a common form in pieces of decorative inspiration of the period. Their decoration in cobalt blue under the cover recreates classical landscape scenes: mountains, pavilions, stylized trees and birds in flight or at rest, motifs that refer to the ideal of the literati landscape, a symbol of harmony and contemplation in the Chinese tradition.
In the upper zone there is a frieze with hanging linear motifs and calligraphic characters, reinforcing the link with the ornamental repertoires of Qing porcelain. The subtle warm tone of the glaze and the slight irregularities in the pictorial application reveal its manual execution, typical of workshops active in the transition between the Guangxu era (1875-1908) and the early years of the Republic.
The signature on the back indicates its origin from an identified workshop or signatory, something common in early 20th century porcelain, especially in pieces destined for trade and export.
