The name of this model is a direct tribute to its creator, Adolphe Mouron “Cassandre,” a world-renowned French graphic designer and poster artist of Ukrainian origin. In December 1961, founder Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé commissioned him to design the visual identity of their new fashion house.Cassandre broke all the typographic rules of the time by vertically intertwining the designer’s three initials (Y, S, L), subtly blending characteristics of uppercase and lowercase letters. The result was a monogram of exceptional architectural purity and elegance that immediately became the brand’s unmistakable hallmark.
