Blue resin barrel, vermeil barrel band engraved with the first bars of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy".
The Pelikan company itself explains that the M800 model was introduced in 1987. The two-color gold nib was made of 14-karat gold. The cap had a brass jewel with the Pelikan logo. At the top end of the fill button was an undecorated gold-plated brass jewel. Later models had an 18-karat two-tone gold nib (from the 1990/91 catalog). The Pelikan logo was designed to match the pen type, so that pens in a case could be quickly identified; the fountain pen and ballpoint have black logos, the rollerball and mechanical pencil gray on a gold background. From 1997 onwards, all models have uniformly colored logos. In 1991, the engraving on the cap band changed from PELIKAN W-GERMANY to PELIKAN GERMANY. Later, the brass cap jewel disappeared and the cap logo changed from cut-out to screen-printed (in 1997/1998). The brass jewel on the filler button also disappeared. The engraving is PELIKAN SOUVERÄN GERMANY. Since 2003 the cap logo has been made in metal optics.
