BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JANO MUÑOZ (A Coruña, 1971).
"Cathedral", 2000, Cuenca.
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the upper right corner. Signed, dated, located and titled on the back.
Measures: 81 x 100 cm; 85 x 104 cm (frame).
With an early vocation for art, he began his training at the Pablo Picasso School of Arts in his native city in 1986, and six years later graduated in the speciality of volume techniques. On that same date he held his first exhibition at the same centre and continued in other Galician cities, until he moved to Barcelona, where he soon managed to establish himself and project his work, after exhibiting at the Sala de Arte Joven de la Generalitat de Catalunya and La Caixa, in the city of Barcelona. He took part in the 6th edition of the prestigious Mostra de Unión Fenosa in 1999. He won a prize in the selection called Veinticinco artistas jóvenes de Cataluña and was a finalist in the Kronenbour prize in Barcelona. Lately, his painting has been exhibited in Italy. Jano Muñoz's painting is conceptual, reflexive, based on an intense reasoning about geometric structures. His landscape painting is immersed in hyperrealism, whose leading Spanish figure is Antonio López García, although the Galician is more sober in colour and gives the volumes an intensity of polyhedrons in space, which add mystery to his chromatic results, in greys and ochres, deliberately falsifying perspective. It can also be an exercise in lines and secant lines, in the manner of a constructive structure, of great simplicity and beauty. VI Mostra Unión Fenosa, A Coruña, 1999.
In the present canvas, Jano Muñoz captures, following his particular style, the cathedral of Santa María and San Julián in Cuenca. Captured from a particular point of view, the canvas highlights the Gothic façade of the temple, with its porticoes and arcades, a symbol of the city.

The painting also shows the Gothic façade of the cathedral, with its porticoes and arcades, a symbol of the city.
