With an original label on the reverse side reading “Patronato de la Fundación Generalísimo Franco. Industrias Artísticas Agrupadas. Madrid,” which guarantees that it was made “of pure wool, with no regenerated wool.” It retains a second, now illegible manufacturer’s label and an embroidered number on the reverse: F.17.391.
Condition: Needs cleaning. Signs of use and wear consistent with its age.

Exceptional for its ten-meter length, this large gallery rug is an interesting example of the textile production of the Generalissimo Franco Foundation–Industrias Artísticas Agrupadas, a manufacturer that played a prominent role in the revival of the Spanish rug-making tradition during the 20th century.

Against a luminous ivory background unfolds a continuous botanical motif, organized through fine, undulating stems and scrollwork that link stylized floral motifs in soft shades of green, pink, and salmon. The design is bordered by a geometric border with a repetitive pattern—also featuring plant motifs—which accentuates the piece’s pronounced length. The deliberately subdued color palette and the lightness of the design lend the piece an elegance particularly suited to large public spaces and reception areas.

The production of knotted carpets was one of the Foundation’s most significant specialties; its workshops played an active role in the revival and dissemination of historical Spanish carpet-making techniques. In contrast to a Persian or Oriental-inspired interpretation, the significance of this piece lies precisely in its connection to the Spanish artisanal tradition, reinterpreted in the mid-20th century in accordance with the decorative tastes of the time.
Its extraordinarily elongated shape, the documented use of pure wool, the identification of the manufacturer, and the preservation of its original marks make this piece of special interest both to collectors of Spanish decorative arts and to interior design projects requiring a piece with a strong architectural presence.
