DESCRIPTION

Set of ten pieces of Surgical instruments; Rome, I-II centuries AD.
Bronze.
Measurements: 6 x 1 cm (smaller); 16 x 2 cm (larger).
Lot composed of 10 surgical utensils. The development of this type of Roman instruments was fundamental not only at the time, but also today, since the materials used today in medicine are largely heirs of this Roman tradition. In a conquering society such as the Roman one, the conservation of the army was fundamental, however, it was not until the arrival of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus to power (in the year 27 B.C.) who favored the sanitary organization in the army.
