The Senufo are an ethnolinguistic group composed of various subgroups of people living in an area that expands from southern Mali and western Burkina Faso towards Katiola in Ivory Coast. One group, the Nafana, was founded in northwestern Ghana. The Senufo speak the various Senufo languages. The capital of the Senufo is Korhogo, a very old village in northern Ivory Coast, dating back to the 13th century. The practices and cultural expressions linked to the balafon of the Senufo communities of Mali and Burkina Faso were declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2012. On December 6, 2012, Côte d'Ivoire was added to this plurinational candidacy.
