DESCRIPTION

GINO CENEDESE (Italy, 1907 - 1973).
Murano glass scavo.
Presents label on the base.
Measurements: 29,5 x 22,5 cm.
Lime green scavo glass vase. The piece presents an artistic technique of Murano glass that mimics the appearance of ancient objects found in archaeological excavations. Murano Scavo glass has a rustic and opaque appearance, achieved by recreating the effect of glass that has been buried underground for a long time. It was invented by Alfredo Barbini in the 1950s and adopted by other companies such as Seguso.
Gino Cenedese, originally from the Venetian island of Murano, began his training as a glassmaker at the age of nine, learning the different techniques with various masters. In 1946, at the end of World War II, he founded the artistic glass firm Gino Cenedese & C., now Gino Cenedese e Figlio. Under his direction the artistic glass pieces of his firm achieved international recognition for their high quality. In parallel to the glassmaking tradition of Murano, focused on the production of all kinds of blown pieces, Cenedese was able to open in a distinctly contemporary line, based on the continuous search for new ways to exploit and interpret the properties of glass. From the fifties will collaborate with the firm prominent designers and artists, and their pieces will be shown in major national and international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale.
