DESCRIPTION
JOAN ANTONI TOLEDO, (Valencia, 1940 - 1995).
"Characters".
Eleven ink drawings on paper.
Signed and dated in the lower area.
Measurements: 30 x 20 cm (each one).
Founding member of Estampa Popular and the Equipo Crónica group along with Rafael Solbes and Manolo Valdés, from which he split in 1968 after questioning the role of collective work versus individual realization. He was considered one of the most important exponents of the social realism of the sixties and seventies.
Toledo had an important artistic career as a solo artist, where he maintained the spirit of his beginnings in which images were distorted to create a cultural chronicle. He gave way to a more personal and calm painting, through which he showed his versatility and his way of adapting the language of Pop Art to the reality of that time.
For Toledo the seventies and early eighties would be the protagonists of a production centered on creations on paper, being a fundamental source of information that makes known his artistic legacy. Drawings, sketches, ideas captured on paper, were his main means of communication and experimentation.
Part of his work is housed in the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno and the Museo de Arte Reina Sofía.
