MARTIN VISSER (Netherlands, 1922 - 2009) for Spectrum.
Pair of "SZ02" armchairs, 1980s.
Metal frame and black leather.

Measurements: 70 x 61 x 64 cm.
This pair of lounge armchairs "SZ02", designed by Martin Visser for Spectrum in the 1980s, is part of the continuity of Dutch modernism, with a rigorous approach to line and function. The design remains faithful to the original spirit of the model, while benefiting from a subsequent production with carefully crafted finishes. Each armchair rests on a tubular metal structure, sober and precise, which guarantees stability and visual lightness. The seat and backrest in black leather, tensioned and held in place by a system of webbing and visible fastenings, reflect a technical workmanship that is well mastered. The contrast between the rigour of the base and the suppleness of the leather creates a harmonious balance. The leather shows a nice patina of use, with light surface marks consistent with age, without affecting the readability of the piece.
Martin Visser (Netherlands, 1922-2009) was a key figure in post-war Dutch modern design. Trained in the context of the rise of European modernism, he developed a career focused on furniture design characterized by functionality, structural clarity and a refined aesthetic. As head designer of the design store of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, Visser promoted the dissemination of contemporary design, collaborating with important international creators. His work is distinguished by the honest use of materials such as steel, wood and leather, combined in sober and highly functional compositions.
