DESCRIPTION
Pendant lamp. Murano. Italy, ca. 1970.
Hand-blown and hot-worked glass in shades of blue and clear.
Original wiring.
Measurements: 30 cm high × 40 cm in diameter (excluding the cord).
This lamp is part of the revival of decorative Murano glass that took place during the 1960s and 1970s, when Murano workshops explored organic forms and textural effects that departed from industrial uniformity. The handcrafted shade combines a bluish upper section with a colorless body of remarkable transparency.
The undulations, folds, and irregular thickening of the glass reveal its hot-forming process and produce continuous variations in light. The chromatic gradation, which evokes the movement of water, concentrates the intensity of the blue in the upper part and allows light to diffuse through the transparent edge. Its sculptural form and the unique nature of the handcrafted work make it a representative example of Italian lighting from the 1970s.
