Round sculpture representing a young woman lying down holding a tablet, indicating that it is the representation of Sappho. Greek poetess of the fourth century BC Sappho remains a prototype of modern woman, cultured, independent and free, admired in her time for her beauty and intelligence. She expresses her femininity in verses that speak of amorous passion with sensitivity and delicacy. She loved men and even more women, giving rise to the term lesbianism safism, because of her relationship with her disciples to whom she taught on the island of Lesbos.
