In the work of Rodolfo Llópiz, pictorial and photographic research is transformed into a passionate montage of icons and familiar signs. His works are a mixture of images in which he combines concepts considered contrary or different: the informal with the formal, the text with the image and color with black.
Rodolfo Llópiz trained at the San Alejandro Art Academy, the oldest art school in Latin America, and later trained in painting and engraving. In 1989 he started working in René Portocarrero's silkscreen workshop, which became the cultural center of Cuba in the 1990s and where important artists such as Martín Chirino passed through. There he made a portfolio of silkscreens paying tribute to Tino Casal. In January 1996, the Arci Nova Cultural Association invited him to Italy, along with five other Cuban painters, to hold the traveling exhibition Seeing to Believe. Some time later he got a scholarship to make an engraving portfolio in Weimar (Germany). At that time he collaborated with the RAM gallery in Zurich and the Canvas gallery in Amsterdam. Later he traveled to Spain, where he resides today.
